Landscape Sand for Fill, Bedding and Preparation

Sand is not one interchangeable material. A project may call for fill, a bedding layer, a drainage-related material or a hardscape-specific product. Start with the job requirement and the current product listing, then choose the sand that fits the intended application instead of selecting by price or colour alone.

Use fill and grading material with a plan

Fill and grading work affects the finished landscape long after the truck leaves. Confirm the intended grade, how water will move and what material belongs on top before ordering. A fill application is different from a planting soil, and it is different again from a paver bedding detail.

Follow hardscape-system requirements

Pavers and other hardscape systems may specify a particular bedding or joint material. Follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions and project details rather than substituting general sand. Base, bedding, jointing and edge restraint all work together in a finished hardscape.

For Contractors

Match the sand to the drawing, manufacturer requirement or work scope before ordering. Confirm whether the material is for fill, bedding, drainage or another specified role, then calculate it separately from aggregate layers. Provide delivery and placement details so the material can be staged efficiently at the Edmonton project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can any sand be used under pavers?

No. Follow the paver manufacturer’s and project installation requirements for every layer, including bedding and joint material.

Can I use fill sand for a garden bed?

Choose a product intended for the planting application. Fill materials are selected for grading or volume needs and may not be the right growing material for a garden bed.

How much sand do I need?

Use the calculator for an estimate based on the area and planned depth, then confirm the product and required installation thickness before treating that estimate as final.
